A Dose of Realism? Here You Go! Contrary to the insane claims - TopicsExpress

A Dose of Realism? Here You Go! Contrary to the insane claims made by some Texas State Reps, there IS a race for Speaker of the Texas House. Conservative Republican, Scott Turner, will take it to the floor in a race against Joe Straus. I keep hearing these Republican Representatives defending their support for Joe Straus with this arrogant line “…the reality is there is no race for Speaker of the Texas House.” They say it like it should be understood and as if we, the public, are naive for believing that our elected officials wouldnt or shouldnt stand against the one man who has stood in front of so much grassroots conservative change in Texas government. They say it as if we should just accept it and move on… Why should any conservative voter be expected to accept that any Republican lawmaker who likely campaigned on honesty, integrity, and conservatism would stand behind a man who embodies none of those attributes? The 2009 coup, in which 11 Republicans, joined with 65 Democrats to oust their fellow Republican, Tom Craddick, and elect Straus, was the first sign that there was something very dishonest about this Speaker. Now, we have Republican lawmakers scorning their constituents for supporting Scott Turner because they believe it is causing disunity in the party. So, Joe Straus becomes Speaker by joining with 65 Democrats against the majority of his own party….and we’re the ones causing disunity? I would contend that most Republican reps touting this line are interested in unity, alright, but not unity within their own party…they want bi-partisan unity with those who support business as usual in Austin and Straus provides that. But let’s get back to this idea that there simply is no race for Speaker because the challenger just doesnt have the support…..WHY should this be an excuse to support Straus? These reps might as well say “Hey, I really wanna vote for the right thing, but everyone else is voting for this wrong thing and the wrong thing is gonna win, and I wanna be on the team that wins…even if it’s the wrong team.” If there is no race for Speaker it’s only because each and every individual Texas Republican Representative has made his or her own individual choice to stand with Joe Straus and all that he represents. Each one represents one more possible vote for the right thing and one less vote for the wrong thing. I believe it was Sarah Palin who said “only dead fish go along with the flow” and it appears that the Texas House Republican Caucus is chocked full of dead fish. Call your state rep and tell him or her not to be a dead fish, unite with other Texas Republicans and vote for the right thing….tell them to stop messing around and vote for Scott Turner!
