A F.R.I.E.N.D.S. rescue story: We received a call from a local vet stating there were two horses locally that were in pretty bad shape and in need of immediate assistance. She had been treating the gelding for 3 days for Colic and she said they were in a bad situation. We quickly hooked up the trailer and headed over there. When we arrived no one was there. The gelding was eating moldy hay out of a falling down shed with the door open. It was raining but there was no water in the buckets. There they were, 2 young Thoroughbreds, both emaciated, standing in a small dirt lot. There was no shelter, just a tree. The young girl that owned them pulled up and said, Ill sign anything, just get them out of here, I cant afford to keep them anymore. I proceeded to ask my usual string of questions and she informed me that she had adopted the two horses from a local rescue. I asked her which one and she then told me she could not remember. She signed the paperwork and left. So, we loaded the horses and moved him to our facility. The following day the vet came out to do the regular check up, set up their diets, vaccinate them and decide what meds they needed for various health issues. It was a long haul getting them back in shape. We looked up their lip tattoos and found the gelding called Chevy had the racing name Chicago Bill and the mare, Dixie had the racing name Tias Miss. Both had run at 3 of Floridas tracks and neither had made any money. To see the before and after pictures of these guys is something else but to know how sweet and loveable these two are is amazing. After needing to be taken in at two different rescues they still like people and kids. We thought they would be a handful coming off the track but they were such a surprise, they were both kids safe and beginner safe. They now both have a forever home at F.R.I.E.N.D.S. where they are loved by many. The pictures say it all.
