A-FAB e-newsletter, Issue 1 From Greenpeace, Oxfam and MCCW Last September 22, A-FAB held a media briefing in Quezon City, Philippines to discuss the impacts of extreme weather in Southeast Asia. Dr. Tun Lwin of Myanmar Climate Change Watch was the main speaker for the event. Also present were Hla Hla Kyi, Myanmar Dept. of Meteorology and Hydrology Staff Officer; Orly Mercado, EROPA Secretary General; Zelda Soriano, Greenpeace Southeast Asia Legal and Political Advisor; and Riza Bernabe; Oxfam-GROW East Asia Policy and Research Coordinator. The media briefing was also broadcast live via video conference in Bangkok, Thailand and Jakarta, Indonesia. Also part of the media briefing last September 22 was the launch of A-FABs latest policy brief, Weathering Extremes. Authored by Dr. Tun Lwin, the policy brief takes stock of some of Southeast Asia’s most extreme weather catastrophes in recent years and how much it has cost the region in lives and economic opportunities.
