A FATHER’S LOVE “If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?” – Luke 11:13 My daughter’s friend “desperately” wanted an iPad for Christmas. Her dad agreed on the condition that she reach a certain grade in Math, as she was failing miserably then. The girl’s grade improved but it was still way below the minimum set by her dad. In spite of this, the girl managed to get her iPad after much cajoling. When I heard this, I struggled to appreciate the dad’s gesture. I asked, What values is this guy teaching his child? That it’s OK to reward mediocrity? Then I realized maybe that’s just how he shows his love for his child, regardless of how misguided it seemed to me. This is how it is with our Heavenly Father as well. Regardless of our imperfections and our errant ways, His love for us never wanes. His acceptance of us in spite of ourselves goes beyond all understanding. Today’s Gospel reminds us that when we turn to God and make things right with Him, He sees our hearts’ intent.
