A FEW THOUGHTS ON MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING AND PHILOSOPHY 1. Keep an open mind (Be an empty cup.) 2. Absorb what is useful and reject what is not. (Bruce Lees Philosophy, Jun Fan Boxing or JKD (whatever you want to call it) was not static it is fluid and growing and shrinking all of the time.) 3. Keep it simple. (Simple works in the street.) 4. Economy of motion. (The less you move, shortest distance, in a technique the faster it is.) 5. Velocity (times) mass (equals) FORCE (I cannot increase your mass but I can increase your velocity by up to 30%, with some simple coaching and lots of practice.) 6. The ultimate goal of Bruce Lees method of training is for the student to find and perfect their own style based on their own strengths and weaknesses. 7. Do not telegraph your technique, initiate your technique from where your hands or feet are, (Do not chamber or cock your technique.) 8. Vary your workouts, do not fall into a routine that becomes easy for you. (Do a wide variety swim, run, bike, jump rope, ....) 9. Bruce Lees style revolves around two concepts; one, use a limited number of techniques that can be organized into an infinite number of combinations and two, practice them until they become second nature so that when you encounter a stimulus that you will respond with a nerve of reflex response. A nerve response is much faster than a thought response.) 10. Realism in training. If you want to learn to fight you must fight. You cannot learn combat otherwise.
