A FIGHTING CHANCE? Members of the Hollywood Professional Firefighters responded to help out another one of our furry residents on Labor Day when a concerned citizen called for help with an injured puppy. When they arrived, the Fire/Rescue crew found a trembling little pup who had a serious wound to its hind leg that had already been highly infected. The caller stated that the scared canine had been trapped in some barbed wire, but didnt know anything else about his circumstances. Our Firefighters then went to work gently treating the dogs wounds while awaiting Animal Services. When an Animal Services representative arrived, he informed those on-scene that the facilty would accept the puppy, but due to the seriousness of its injuries, that it would be euthanized almost immediately. To spare its life, the kind-hearted caller instead pledged to take the injured pup to Hollywood Animal Hospital, where it would be taken care of for a fee that she would have to supply. We hope that she followed through with her promise, and that the little guy pulls through. Anthony J Vera
