A FIRST YEAR police officer responding to a call about someone in - TopicsExpress

A FIRST YEAR police officer responding to a call about someone in a playground brandishing a gun, that appears to be fake, ran from his car and shot a twelve year-old Black child to death. Why is so much authority given to a rookie police officer who no doubt, has not reached the age of emotional maturity to handle life and death situations, let alone a firearm. This aggressive action by this under-developed police officer will be protected by impunity, you know, protection from unpleasant consequences that is given to law enforcement. Something is very wrong with this picture. Why are police officers not required to have psychological evaluations? Its mandatory for those who educate our children to go through a psychological evaluation but for what reasons, is it for the protection of our children? If so, one would think this mandatory requirement should be administered to law enforcement not only prior to hiring them, but throughout their careers. You know, for the protection of society. Returning to my first thought, a 12 year old Black child was killed by a young and inexperienced police officer who never went through a psychological evaluation prior to being giving the authority to make the decision to take someones life.
