A FOUR DAY training package? How can anyone be competent in the 12 - TopicsExpress

A FOUR DAY training package? How can anyone be competent in the 12 elements of caring in 4 days? Those 12 elements do not even cover the legal obligations and responsibilities also required to adequately perform the role. Even if someone passes the course, there is still no guarantee of their suitability for the role which is why I have been campaigning for over a year for mandatory training minimum for a year with work based placements akin to an apprenticeship that would include close supervision, mentorship and appraisal prior to even qualifying! Then, once qualified, I advocate that each candidate should be entered onto a national register similar to that of nurses to enable regulation etc. With my 26 years of nursing experience, which includes teaching and assessing qualifications, I know only too well what is required in order to perform the role competently. I have developed on paper a robust and comprehensive training programme that would ensure that only those suitable, capable and competent in all aspects of care are employed to meet the needs of very vulnerable people with complex physical and mental health needs. Until the aims of my campaign become a reality, unfortunately, the incidents of neglect and abuse will continue in the current abominable multitudes of numbers! There is now a groundswell of noise regarding this issue of lack of training of healthcare assistants and hopefully it will gather momentum and reach a crescendo that will initiate action! abcmedicalservices.co.uk/?p=29
