A Fellow Panther Fan Duane Fannon posted this on NFL, what do u guys think. Sorry Im late to the party but didnt you wonder why Smitty was at Clemson yesterday to be on ESPN and not Answer the question if he was staying or going. I have a theory on that, Coach Steve Smith scouting WR Martavis Bryant. HMM! Did se that coming did you. Win, Win for everyone. He stays a Panther and contributes in all sorts of ways. Im all smiles if that develops. But heay Im banking on Gross being a coach to. So moving on from Coach Smith and Gross and it plays a big part id both come in as coaches to this young offense and how we Draft and approach FA. These are 2 Hall of Famers you have to keep around period even if they dont have a uniform on. So moving to Draft and it is relatively simple if You trust GM Dave Gettleman and I do for the simple fact his back ground is being a Pro Scout. So Im not drafting an O-lineman and it doesnt matter how a player ranks if they are going to fill a need and develop into a starter for years to come and be an impact player. This is where you have to trust Gettlemans judgment. Yep Ive heard Im crazy and so on. But where Gettleman went and picked these O-lineman from speaks volumes to me and the guys returning off IR. People question Nate Chandlers ability coming over from Defense, but you didnt know he started out in college as an O-lineman and coaching switched him to Defense. Im sliding Nate to starting LT. Smartest move Gettleman can make. Nate has played both sides of the ball and knows what a defense is going to throw at him. Nate was a little small for RG but is the perfect size for LT which him and Gross mirror each other in that department. Besides he did a great job benign thrown to the wolves and we went 12-4. OK now for my mock draft and it will change before we land at Draft Day and honestly it wont matter. 1st CB Stanley Jean Baptiste. Yep hype has pushed his stock, But he has the skills to develop and if we want him to combat bigger TEs and WRs in the League we have to go get him before someone else does thinking the same thing. Like Tampa, Atlanta and NO. Have to win our division to be contenders each year and I think Baptiste is a piece of the puzzle. Benjamin wont be there because of the hype on him and we cant reach so we better get someone who can cover him and a TE called Jimmy Graham. 2nd WR Martavis Bryant. I really like this young man and Ive posted on him heavily. His career at Clemson was over shadowed by Sammy Watkins, There is no way to get Watkins. Bryant has all the Skills speed and size to be a #1 WR. The best part is IMO Bryant hasnt peaked and Watkins has. That is a great thing because I see Bryant being better than Benjamin or as great in the NFL. Hint: Im fishing here, but why was Steve Smith in Clemson yesterday. 3rd CB Keith McGill. Another big physical CB who can press at the line of scrimmage and like Baptiste cove TEs like Jimmy Graham and WRs like Benjamin. WRs are plentiful big CB who can jam cover and tackle are rare. His skill set is a little different from Baptiste, 4th SS Craig Loston Another big player who can cover in man coverage. I have a felling Charles Godfrey wont be here much longer so we need to develop players to be around Luke and the Front 4. 5th DE Brent Urban. A DE you bet. I seen us stall in the playoff not getting a push on the pocket. Second half was a shut down on our Defense. Sad but true and even Gettleman mentioned this. Why Urban, because he is just like Hardy and Johnson Big, Quick and can play with his hand in the dirt and rotate to DT. Think about a 3-4 Defense with Hardy, Urban, Johnson our in a different look for Speed is Alexander, Hardy, Urban, Johnson. But hardy Johnson and Urban can play up, Down and DT. Blows your mind doesnt it. Now add Baptiste, McGill and Loston. Yeah I know what about. different skill sets and fresh. 6th WR Cody Hoffman Not as refined as Bryant but has the skill set to be a #2 coming into this league and moving up. I see Hoffman as a Muhsin Muhammad type player. Nothing really flashy but a constant player who catches everything, Plus I hate the Bears for coming in and grabbing players and that will be Tampa and Lovie Smith again. Its coming. 7th FS Jonathan Dowling. He is a question mark here. There are about 3 other player with similar skill sets I would be alright with. Dowling is a big FS who can cover man to man and cover ground quickly. His tackling skills need to improve to make it in the NFL. Tackling you can teach cover is another story. So FA in a couple of days Im going to bite on. Hakeem Nicks. Yeah he still has the potential to be a #1 and since there are no guarantees with anyone you draft will be. So I would offer Nicks a 1 year deal for 2-2.5 million with a option for a long term deal if his production numbers are there. FA NT Terrence Cody. Yep if You are a Crimson Tide fan his name should ring a bell. Cody was a starting NT for the Tide and drafted by the Ravens and put in a back up role and I have no idea why. Wasted talent so Im going for him. Gettleman likes hog mollies and he fits the mold. a one year 1 million deal should land him here. A huge Young Gun to be in front of Luke. Yep I just turned the LB Group loose to wreak havoc on opposing Offenses. sad thing is we will have to depart with Colin Cole who will be 34 years old. Next year is Dwan Edwards. So we need to build a couple dont you think. Thats all on FA. Im not impressed with the 101 on the FA. To much or to old. Sorry guys, Yep its business and we didnt when the playoff game. came close but things have to change to move up. I think I put my UDFA list up but I think I will add it in another post.
