A Five Star Review. Oops, Wrong Book. Theres a first time for everything. My latest goes like this: Last night, Im dutifully checking the Amazon reader reviews for A Deadly Wandering and see three more five-star reviews have landed. Cool. I start reading. The third one, titled Tragic story, well-written, starts a little bit odd: I live in Arizona so this book was especially interesting to me. Okay, I think, the book is set in Utah. Not far from Arizona. So maybe the writers just digging proximity. Then it goes: Its a sad story - these poor people getting ripped off by the coyotes and then dying here in the desert. I think: Yes, sad at times, and people died, albeit on a mountain road, not exactly the desert. Poetic license, perhaps. The coyotes thing throws me. But, then, maybe the writer is about to go Big Fat Metaphor. Mobile Phones = Coyotes. Maybe this is poetry. Then it reads: No matter how a person feels about illegal immigrants, surely nobody could wish this kind of tragedy on them. okay, yes, I agree, interesting point. Also: THIS IS ABOUT A DIFFERENT BOOK ALTOGETHER! Either that or, as Id secretly hoped, my book has several layers of secret meaning, like a Beatles album played backwards. Later, by the way, I tried to figure out what book he might be reviewing. My best guess is something called The Devils Highway, about coyotes ferrying illegal immigrants from Mexico. Ideally, not while texting. Meantime, though, let this not dissuade you from writing lyrical, metaphorical reviews of A Deadly Wandering. .
