A Flood Watch has been issued for the Hangingstone River at Fort McMurray in the Athabasca River Basin. Stream levels are rising and will approach or may exceed bank full. Flooding of areas adjacent to these streams may occur. A slow moving low pressure system over central Saskatchewan has brought between 60 to 160 mm of precipitation to north-eastern Alberta over the weekend. River levels are rising rapidly in response to the precipitation. The Hangingstone River at Fort McMurray is approaching bankfull conditions and is expected to peak sometime this evening. An additional 10 to 20 mm of precipitation is forecasted for north-eastern Alberta in the next 24 hour period. Conditions are being monitored – an update will be issued as the situation requires.
