A Free Man I walk down paved nights, Welcomed by streets I departed from, I remember nothing here, The things I knew, The things that were here When I left as a child, Have been pulled down, My childhood, Now having become man, Has been torn apart, I walk through them, Trying to find my lost yesterday, Trying to remember me, youthful in age, Before I slipped, and was taken away, The air is laden with fresh scent, The cobblestones sing With the steps I make, The moon is warm, I dance, As I walk from incarceration, I whistle, Feeling the pulse within me, No longer the caged bird, No more the flightless one, The periphery calls, I soar, Into the unchained, The streams I walk along, Whisper when rain beats upon them, I hear their voices, As drizzle pounds, splashes, And penetrates them, The zephyr is a tit, A humming bird, Freedom has neither been tantalizing, nor tasteful, Until today.
