A GENERATION OF REFORMATION. Identifying A Generation Of Reformation Let us consider some of the active principles and characteristics that apply in a generation in the very midst of a current transition to Reformation positions. The Word of God is filled with incidences of entire societies shifting from one dimension of life to another. Joshua led the survivors of the Exodus across the Jordan River into a new state of life. Nomads became city dwellers and occupied lands taken by force of arms from the idolatrous people who previously owned them. The corrupt order of Eli gave way to the Prophetic priesthood of the judge Samuel and renewed the authority of God in the nation of Israel. The long painful shift from the Saul era to the Davidic era brought the nation into a fresh prophetic dimension, and set the stage for the emergence of the glorious Kingdom of Solomon and the construction of the Temple. Kings like Josiah brought Reformation to the land, as he obliterated the errors of his fathers and built new platforms of faith and service in the hearts of the people. The generation that lived at the time of Moses was a Reformation generation that actually lived through the practical shift from the bondage under Pharaoh, to the liberty of the long march through the wilderness to a new life with God. More than any other chapter, Exodus Chapter 12 captures the moment of transition and takes us into the technology of that awesome night, in which all of their prayers throughout the days of servitude become crystallized into the moment of deliverance and change. Let us look at several conditions that pertain to the generation living in the day of Reformation: • Condition 1: Advancing In The Crisis. And it came to pass at midnight that the LORD struck al the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on the throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of livestock. So Pharaoh rose in the night, he, all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where there was not one dead. Exodus 12:29, 30. Reformation is the product of a system in turmoil in which man has lost his way. It defines a system in which we can no longer stay. However we must be able to interpret the crisis in which we live. Turmoil is not a reason for despair or depression but is a signal that God has initiated the process of change. When God sent Moses in to speak to Pharaoh, God promised to harden the heart of the king of Egypt so that His wonders might be demonstrated to the stubborn king. “You shall speak all that I command you. And Aaron your brother shall speak to Pharaoh, to send the children of Israel out of the land. And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt. But pharaoh will not heed you, so that I may lay My hand on Egypt and bring My armies and My people, the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the children of Israel from among them.” Exodus 7:2-5. There would be no transition without the season of utter crisis. Behind the crisis was the unfolding purpose of God. It was the national turmoil that would break through the obscurity in the mentalities of the people of Pharaoh and show them the awesome power of God. Reformation meant not only liberation and advancement for the people of God, but also a statement of divine power and the clear recognition of God among the nations. The same principle exists today in this present season of the empowering of the Church. Midnight represents the day of crisis and the season of change. It is the moment of the LORD’S action; the hour in which all the prophetic promises come into actualization, and years of prayer distil into precise activity both in heaven and here on the earth. The generation whose accurate advance begins in the midst of the crisis of the times is the generation of the future. The midnight horror in Egypt was the birthing of this new people and was the signal from heaven that the time of their advance had come.
