A GIFTED TRAINER ... DENIED OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE HIS OWN COOK ISLANDS PEOPLE ... As some of our Cook Islands Rugby NZ Inc community and the wider Cook Islands community may not be aware or know but the IRB Junior World Cup Rugby tournament is being held here in Auckland, kick off was today ... Unfortunately we dont have a Cook Islands team in this tournament, however I believe this is a work in progress. Watch this space ... I would like to bring to your attention that one of our own sons from the CIRNZ annual rugby tournament is apart of this exciting venture. Congratulations to Junior Mautairi (Rarotonga Senior Mens Rugby Trainer & NZ Junior Warriors 20s and Development Trainer) has now been appointed to be the Italy Under 20s Team Liaison Officer/Assistant Trainer for the IRB Junior World cup tournament which has just commenced today. I believe his credentials within this area especially with the strong emphasis around strengthening and conditioning of players, nutrition and game policies speaks for itself with the many opportunities he has been given in such a short period is a huge accolade for him and his family. It has always been a dream of his to be given the chance to serve his own Cook Islands sports community with his skills around being a strong and astute trainer however the opportunity never came around for this gifted trainer who follows the process by applying for the positions within Cook Islands rugby after being overlooked this has not stopped him from being determined and motivated, so hes look at other avenues and from my understanding this is only going to make him a strong person to strive to be the best he can be ... with a can do attitude he is going to reap the rewards ... Junior is a man of his word and believes in the strategies that he implements for any sport code that he gets himself involved in especially Rugby League, Rugby, Touch and so forth ... Junior is currently studying a Bachelors Degree in Sports Management ... All I can say on behalf of CIRNZ executive committee, Congratulations on your achievements thus far we challenge you all to get behind him or any other potential trainers and support them on their journey ... Kind regards, Toru Kirianu CIRNZ Secretary
