A GIRL WHO MOVED MOUNTAIN !!! I always wanted to tell about the untold stories of the unsung heroes and their heroics .there is a thing about adversity, either it breaks you completely or it makes you so strong that you can do something which you never thought you could and such is the story of Anurima sinha. Arunima- a lower middle class girl born and brought up at Ambedkar nagar (Uttar Pradesh) was good in sports in her childhood and played volleyball at national level .She was a confident girl and wanted to do something with her life .She gave examination for CISF and qualified for the head constable post .Life was going good and easy for the girl until something happened which changed her life completely. 11th April 2011-she had to go to Delhi for the final formalities with CISF,so she boarded the train from Lucknow station and sat in the general compartment with high hopes and the dreams of a better future.,but fate had some other plans for her .Some hooligans also boarded the train and as fate would have it,they came to her and tried to snatch her chain as well as the little money she had,but she gave a fight back and the cruel bastards threw her out from the moving train and in the mishap she lost her right leg. What a tragedy the train which she boarded to follow her dream somewhat took her life away from her,now- imagine a 22 year old girl lying on the hospital bed with an amputated leg. Her pain is beyond imagination, but the real story starts now, when you hit the rock bottom and you can’t go down any further then it becomes your substructure and the only way you can go from there is upwards, and eventually this is how you learn to fly – Arunima just lost her right leg but not the hope- she wanted to fly ,so I will describe it in her own words ! “I decided to get my life back in the hospital when I was recovering.” at that time everyone was worried for me.I then realized that I had to do something in my life so that people stop looking at me with pity .I read about people scaling mount everest . I spoke to my elder brother and my coach who only encouraged me -Arunima was not ready to sink into a permanent gloom , “what a woman and what a mindset” So once she got recovered and started walking with a prosthetic leg, Arunima started thinking about the Mount Everest, she had the family support but she knew nothing about it,so she decided to meet “bachendri pal” the first woman who conquered mount everest and was the chief of Tata Steel Adventure Foundation and to her utter surprise she not only agreed to train her but she made sure that arunima will get a sponsorship from (TASF)-chances favour only those in motion .isn’t it ? She commenced her training which went for about a month and here she was on 1st April 2013 -with a prosthetic leg and a lion heart along with another climber susen mahto ready to climb the worlds highest mountain and of course with all the pain, obstacles and endurance she reached the summit of mount everest at 10:55 am on 21st may 2013. a girl with only one leg conquered the mount everest in 52 days while so many “physically able” people have tried and failed and even died in the pursuit of scaling mount everest !! there is a bizarre thing about life-it always returns whatever it takes away from you-but only when you are courageous enough to ask from it ! To me,after the hard toil and endurance of 52 days Arunima not only conquered Mount Everest, she conquered her fears, her grief, her nightmares -she conquered herself -“she conquered the world” !she gave hope and a reason to believe in themselves to many of those specially challenged people and to all of us . no praise is enough for her but the unfortunate part is nobody knows Arunima sinha, nobody cares about her achievement . Like Arunima there are so many people out there who fought and won…they deserve more then a little article, they deserve recognition and rewards ,hoping that they will get it someday !
