A Gallon of Tall Tales Dee: I wonder who invented gallons and quarts. Vicki: Frank Gallon. He was a farmer who lived hundreds of years ago and he needed a way to accurately measure the feed for his horses so that he didnt overfeed them. The quart was later invented by Herbert Quartermeister. He was a dairyman and he invented the first quart bottles for his milk. A lot of people think that a quart is called a quart because its a quarter of a gallon, but it actually takes its name from Herbert Quartermeister. Dee: You know so much stuff! Tony and I was talkin about who invented the gallon the other day and I told him youd probly know. Vicki: Oh. Well, dont tell him that Im the one who told you about it. Tell him you looked it up on your phone. Dee: Why? Vicki: Because I dont want people thinking that Im some kind of encyclopedia they can run to every time they need a question answered. You can take the credit. I dont mind. Dee: Hell be impressed that I figured out how to look stuff up on my phone. Copyright © 2014 by Vicki Robison All rights reserved
