A Gift for the Poor Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but those who are kind to the needy honor him. (Proverbs 14:31) Christmas is upon us and I want to encourage you to do something this Christmas that … well perhaps you’ve never done before. All around the globe, there are people starving to death. On this Christmas day … 25,000 people will die of malnutrition. Many of them, children. So many of us have so much. I would encourage you to give something to the poor and the needy this Christmas. I’m not talking loose change. I’m talking a gift that’ll cost you something. A gift that will mean that this Christmas, you have to go without something. For a pensioner, that may be a small amount. For someone who’s wealthy that might be a very large amount. The thing that strikes me about God, from the beginning to the end of the Bible, is His incredible heart for the needy. The downtrodden. And His insistence that we who have much, should feed and clothe and shelter those who have nothing. Can I encourage you to give radically and outrageously to the poor and the needy this Christmas. For Christ’s sake.
