A GoFundMe page offering support for Darren Wilson, the Ferguson - TopicsExpress

A GoFundMe page offering support for Darren Wilson, the Ferguson police officer who shot Michael Brown, has angered a number of people who have demanded the page be pulled for allegedly supporting racism, Twitchy reported Thursday. The effort, Twitchy said, is being led by Shaun King, founder of Upfront Media Group, who made the demand on Twitter. We are 72 hours away from asking people to never use your platform again, he tweeted. Clock starts now. Remove that campaign. GoFundMe, however, did not cave to Kings demands, and did not remove the page. On Friday, he repeated his demand, telling GoFundMe it had 12 hours to remove the campaign or face a boycott. This page has been created to support Officer Darren Wilson of the Ferguson Police Department, the page said. We stand behind Officer Darren Wilson and his family during this trying time in their lives. According to the page, all of the funds raised will go directly to Wilson and his family. But some believe that supporting Wilson is tantamount to supporting ISIS, the militant Islamist group beheading children in Iraq. One person, for example, said supporting Wilson is no different than supporting #ISIS. Death is death. Taking ones life should not be rewarded. King claimed there were at least 800 comments he said were racist, but he did not provide any supporting evidence to back up his claim. He also claimed the fundraiser is sponsored by hate groups, but provided no evidence. But despite Kings efforts, the page remains live, and continues to accept donations. As of this writing, the page has raised over $217,000 from over 5,400 donors.
