A God Who Cares Judges 10:16 “Then the Israelites put aside - TopicsExpress

A God Who Cares Judges 10:16 “Then the Israelites put aside their foreign gods and served the LORD. And he was grieved by their misery” Judges 10:16 (NLT). In the Old Testament people often find a God filled with wrath; they mistakenly believe that the Old Testament portrays the angry, vengeful side of God, but this text stands in stark contrast to that misguided picture; it shows the tender heart of our God for His people: “And He was grieved by their misery.” It’s important to note that this was misery they brought on themselves because of their refusal to follow God. This misery was a natural result of their chosen life of sin; and yet, God still looked down on His people and grieved for their pain. I love this picture of God. It’s the picture of a Father Who watches His children get into trouble because they wouldn’t listen to His wise advice; and then, even though the misery they are experiencing is a direct result of their disobedience, He forgives them as soon as they turn from their sins—as soon as they put Him first in their lives. We serve a God Who has an unlimited capacity to love and to care for us; and even when we fall, He still looks down on us in love. What a beautiful picture of God.
