A Godly Response Luke 8:8, 15 Finally today, we see that when the seed of Gods Word falls on good, prepared ground and is thereafter properly nourished, a godly response is the result. What a tremendous work of God takes place whenever the Holy Spirit opens the heart of a lost, hell-bound sinner so that he attends unto the things which were spoken concerning the gospel and is born again by the Spirit (Acts 16:14; Jas.1:18; 1 Pet.1:23-25). This requires prepared ground and pure seed; when Gods Spirit prepares the heart to understand and believe the gospel, both of these vital factors are present. Subsequent to salvation, the believer who continues to receive the Word is no less blessed. He hears the Word and keeps it; hearing is mixed with faith, which is always linked to obedience. This opens the door to God-blessed fruitfulness (v.8). Notice the good ground, the Spirit-prepared soil, of an honest and good heart (v.15). It is honest because the heart is undivided and yielded to Gods will. It is good because it is washed in the blood and in tune with the heartbeat of the Father. Unto you therefore which believe He is precious (1 Pet.2:7). The result is fruitfulness-to bring forth fruit with patience (v.15), that is, continually. This is what God wants in every believer (Eph.2:8-10). The yield may vary from one person to the next (Mk.4:20), but all who are alive in Jesus Christ will produce some measure of fruit through Him. What makes the difference? It is determined by how we receive or respond to the Word that is sown in our heart. Into which of these four categories of hearers do you fall? It makes all the difference in the world-as well as in the world to come!
