A HELLO FROM LUCY Lately, I’ve really been missing my Godmother Lucy. I miss her laugh and our wonderful long conversations. She passed in February 2010, yet I still have the urge to pick up the phone and call her. I told my friend this once and she replied, “Well, that’s because your godmother is still around you.” Indeed, she is. Last week I spoke to Lucy telling her that I haven’t heard from her in a while and would really just like to know that she’s OK. Two days later, my friend Chris visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral. While there she told me that a prayer card for St. Lucy seemed to jump out at her and she immediately thought of me and my Godmother Lucy. Hence, she decided to take the prayer card home for me. Although Chris may not have realized it at the time, she was being used a vehicle to get me my much-needed sign. My Godmother Lucy was extremely religious. Despite many hardships in her life, she never lost sight of her faith. She was an avid church goer, she said the rosary and she was constantly saying novenas. When I was unable to conceive, she sent me a prayer card and told me that she would be saying a novena for me. When I was diagnosed with melanoma, she sent me a prayer card and told me that she would say a novena for me. So as you can see, Chris giving me this prayer card was very much my godmother. I cried happy tears. Thank you, Chris, for listening to your inner voice. Our loved ones truly do hear us.
