A HIGHER LEVEL OF PRAYER By Pastor Yomi Ademuwagun (CAC Agape Fellowship) Matthew 6:9-13 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Jesus is prayer Himself. Our prayers must be directed to our Father who is in heaven. We must come to God with reverence because he has all the power “hallowed be thy name…” We must forgive others as out Heavenly Father forgives our trespasses. Our prayers should be kingdom-focused to bring to pass the will of God (not our will). In prayers, we must bring our personal needs to God; everything we need for life. V11 Give us this day our daily bread... “Bread” encompasses all we need in life physically, spiritually, financially, healthwise, etc. In Matthew 15:26, Jesus told the Syrophoenician woman it wasn’t meet to give the children’s “bread” to dogs. Shen then worshipped Him and persisted. In a higher level of prayer we must worship God. Matthew 26:36-47 is the account of when Jesus was in the garden of Gethsemane. “Gethsemane” means place of the press as in “oil press”. It is the place where olive oil is pressed; a place where basic prayers become intense prayers. A higher level of prayer comes in times of exceeding sorrow when you have no other option. A higher level of prayer is sacrificial. It’s about the will of God being established: Matthew 26:39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. In a higher level of prayer, it is no longer about “me” but about the will of God being accomplished. In a higher level of prayer we must resist distractions must and pray against temptation and for deliverance from the evil one: Matthew 26: 41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. A higher level of prayer comes in times when you desire on a one-on-one with God (separate from the crowd). Times you want to dig deeper and hear what God has to say. A higher level of prayer is when the flesh’s desire is mortified (Romans 8:13); a time of TOTAL surrender to God.
