Defense fuels win by Miami Springs BY BILL DALEY Special to the Miami Herald If ever a unit took the “bend-but-don’t-break” philosophy to heart, it was the Miami Springs defense on Thursday night. Hosting Edison at Mi-lander Stadium, the Golden Hawks turned away the Red Raiders four times in the red zone with zero points over the course of the night, which paved the way for a 19-6 victory. And with the win, Springs, a program just three years removed from a dismal 0-10 season, is off to its first 3-0 start in more than 15 years. Edison fell to 1-1. The Red Raiders cut Springs’ 12-0 lead in half with a touchdown by Kaii Henry and gotten the ball back at their own 18. That’s when Springs cornerback Myron Morris picked off a Malcolm Vigile pass and took it to the 1-yard line, setting up D.J. Bethune’s touchdown run two plays later. “I just got a good read on the play and stepped up and did what I had to do,” said Morris, who has four interceptions in Springs’ first three games.
