A Hadramaut based Turk, this Naqshbandi giant (Ibn Battutas - TopicsExpress

A Hadramaut based Turk, this Naqshbandi giant (Ibn Battutas contemporary) reconquered Sylhet with his 360 disciples in 1303 CE to rid it off polytheisms grip forever. May Allah cause me to meet him in a better place; its through his effort that my ancestors became Muslim. Folklore has it he crossed the Surma river on his prayer mat to reach Srihatta, and the Adhan of his Muadhdhin toppled King Gaur Gobinds palace (and decimate his army). While we do not deny authentic reports of karamat of the pious, theres no sanad for this and moreover I doubt very much that original Jihad that the general Sikander Shah brought upon Gobind in 1301 CE was salvaged without further military effort. Sylhet was originally named Jalalabad but later renamed to something more neutral it seems (Srihatta is a very Hindu name). Its noteworthy that Sylhet still has a sizeable Hindu population and that they were not expelled after the Muslim conquest, unlike in the partition of India in 1947 and more so in during the independence war of 1971 when they fled that way (into India) with the clothes on their back and the Muslims were expelled this way (into Bangladesh).
