A Halloween post I just saw reminded me of something cute that happened late Saturday afternoon. Id come back from the Wellness Fair and was lying on the couch not feeling very well when there was a soft knock on my door. I opened it to find Mary, one of the neighbors, and a cute little guy who turned out to be her five year old Great Grand Son Chase...holding a salt shaker. She introduced him and said he wanted to ask me something. I said, Sure, what is it Chase?. His voice was so soft I could barely hear him as he spoke, Did you know that ghosts are afraid of salt? I wasnt sure for a moment if Id heard him correctly and - for a second or two - Ill admit to wondering about the sanity of the matriarch of the family standing next to him. No, I didnt know that.... I said very slowly. Then realization hit and I exclaimed, Oh, no, Chase...did those ghosts in the yard scare you? He tried to tell me no but his eyes told a different story. His Grandma explained that they often told ghost stories for fun when he was at Grammas and that mama had shared with him that so long as salt was spread across a doorway, ghosts would never be able to cross the threshold. So Chase wanted to know if it would be alright to shake the salt so he could keep the ghosts out of my house. God bless children and their simple hearts...
