A Heres part two of yesterdays Q&A! Q When fishing on a budget and competing against baiting teams what is the best bit of advice you can give? A To use the best quality bait you possibly can afford. You won’t have to use a lot of it as they will instantly recognise that its better than what they’ve been seeing. More often than not a baiting team will be using a poor quality bait that is as cheap as chips but the fish aren’t daft, they’ll spot the difference straightaway. Fish in amongst the cheap stuff, small patches, stringers, cherries on the cake. One kilo at £12 is better than 20 kilos at £5 a kilo. Q Do boilies really need liquid flavours? A They do need flavours, but they don’t need to be liquid. We use liquids because they’re more soluble. Don’t look at flavours from a chemical point of view. LO30 is a flavour as far as I’m concerned. One of the best. Q Is it true that hydrolysed liquids like the salmon used in the range loses a large percentage of their protein when boiled? A All proteins are altered when exposed to heat and it can be denatured to a degree but the underlying aminos are still there. I believe it will actually make the bait easier to digest. Boiling alters it but it doesn’t really make it less nutritious. People are often concerned that it washes out of the bait but that’ll only be the top millimetre or two which can be added back afterwards. Besides, it’s such a blinding additive it’s just got to be in there! Q When formulating a winter mix what percentage of soluble products would you try to get into the bait? A As much as you can get into it! The greater the solubility of the ingredients the better it will be as a winter bait. Q Boil or steam A Either – it really doesn’t matter Q Can I wear waterproof socks when it’s dry? A Yes. Q Birdy or fishmeal and which is best at which time of year? A Fishmeal ALL year! Q What makes your baits better than anyone elses? A The quality of the ingredients in them and the unique way the liquid attractor profile has been put together. There’s a lot of bait lying around on the lakebed and we want ours to stand out amongst the rest, there’s also a lot of chemical pollution in the lakes as well so we need our baits to stand out amongst that background, that’s one of the reasons our baits are quite smelly.
