A Humble Request for J&K Flood Relief As you all are aware of the disastrous situation in J&K due to the floods. The upcoming winter is only going to add to this nationwide calamity. As responsible citizens of the country, we are organizing a donation camp at the school premises in association with a NGO called Goonj. This NGO has its HO at Sarita Vihar, Delhi. To cope with the flood situation in various parts of the country they have launched a campaign called ‘RAHAT FLOODS’. You can visit their website goonj.org for further information about the NGO. For donations at Kunskapsskolan, big cartons will be kept at the Reception from 27th September to the 1st October from 8.00am till 6.30pm. You can also send the stuff with your child to deposit at the Reception. How to pack: Parents are requested to pack the stuff properly in thick plastic bags or cartons so that it is manageable and easily transported. What to pack per the specs given by Goonj: a) Material: Good quality cookers ( only 5 ltrs and ISI marked), utensil sets ( plates and glasses, cooking vessel with lid and spoons, tea pan, kadai, chimta/tong ),thick blankets and wollens, good quality torches and solar lamps, soaps, disinfectants, chlorine tablets ( only the ones which are good for 10 liters and above), candles & match box, tooth brush and paste, children clothing, floaters and chappals, tea leaves, milk powder, dry ration primarily pulses, spices and cooking oil, sanitary napkins, basic medicines(PLEASE VISIT THE GOONJ WEBSITE FOR THE LIST OF MEDICINES), masks and asthma inhalers. Ready to Eat Food: Roasted peanuts (moongfali), Biscuits, Namkeen, Dry fruits, Rusks. Ration for cooking: Rice, Pulses, Kala Chana, Spices, Chili powder, Milk powder, tea leaves, Kashmiri tea leaves, tea bags, sugar, cooking oil, Wheat & Salt. (Humble request- NOT to send perishable items, drinking water bottles, cooked food and dirty/damaged or expired material to any of the center please.) Three Important points from Srinagar. - Please do not purchase expensive soaps, shampoos etc. - Do not send perishable items, expired material, cooked food, chiwra/murmurey etc. as from transportation, management and distribution, these items are creating problem. - Do not give small bottles of water or 5/- namkeen packs as they are being distributed in far off places and these items are not only insufficient for families but are also creating a big environment havoc.
