A Hymn and A Homily: DRAW ME NEARER O the pure delight of a single hour That before Thy throne I spend, When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God, I commune as friend with friend! In Lukes gospel we find these words: And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. After hearing so many superficial prayers, it is refreshing to witness folk who view prayer as both a pleasure and a privilege. The hymnologist and the disciple saw their prayer life (first) as an opportunity to grow their relationship with God; and (second) experience great results from their petitions. Lets face it...many religious leaders where praying in Jesuss day; and a whole lot of folk pray today. But when the disciple carefully observed Jesus prayer life, and recalled that of John and his disciples, he knew he wanted one similarly effectual. It was because Jesus discerned the motive behind the request (the desire for spiritual alignment of man to his God) that his provided them a model prayer. And, those of us who share this disciples desire joyfully echo the hymnologists chorus: Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord, to the Cross where Thou hast died. Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord, to Thy precious bleeding side. #spiritualalignment #scofieldministries
