A JOINT EDS-EDNP CLERICUS STATEMENT CALLING FOR THE ABOLITION OF PRIORITY DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE FUND (PDAF) (Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but those who are kind to the needy honor him. The wicked are overthrown by their evildoing, but the righteous find a refuge in their integrity.) Proverbs 14:31-32 WE, the members of the clergy of The Episcopal Diocese of Santiago (EDS) and The Episcopal Diocese of Northern Philippines (EDNP) gathered today hereby affirm our belief in divine justice as reflected in our Anglican Communion’s Marks of Mission calling for the transformation of unjust structures in our society and to safeguard the integrity of creation. With that, we are seriously disturbed by the information about the case of plundered “pork barrel” and misappropriated billions of pesos involving politicians and their mercenaries. Knowing the miserable economic situation of the congregations committed to our charge, such alarming case of corruption practically puts our people into a never ending cycle of manipulation, exploitation, abuse and poverty. Resources are God’s bounty intended to be fairly shared for the welfare of everybody but never for the oppression of the weak and the powerless. Likewise, all power and authority emanate from God and those entrusted with it are held accountable to God. Failure to acknowledge where these come from breeds a never ending cycle of corruption and injustice. Thus, it is our deepest conviction to join in solidarity with all other sectors of our society to call for the total abolition of Priority Development Assistance Fund P(DAF) or the so called “Pork Barrel” of senators and congressmen. Done, this 11th day of September on the Joint Clericus meeting held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Namillangan, Alfonso Lista, Ifugao.
