A KLOOF woman is currently receiving trauma counselling after she and her husband were bound, gagged and robbed at gunpoint last Wednesday. The mother of one, who was traumatised by the incident, said three armed men stormed into their Penhill Place home at around 6.20am, held them at gunpoint and demanded their valuables. “I opened the back door to go out to feed our dogs. While I was removing the cloth from our bird cages inside the house, and my husband was enjoying a cup of tea before leaving for work, I saw the men enter our house through the back door. There was nothing we could do but follow their commands. The ordeal lasted for only an hour, but it felt like forever,” said the 51-year-old woman. The robbers, believed to be between the ages of 22 and 26, then pushed the couple to the floor, bound their hands with electrical cables and belts and then ransacked the house. They threatened to kill them if they attempted to shout for help. Prior to fleeing with the stolen goods, estimated to be worth between R80 000 and R100 000, the brazen robbers helped themselves to biscuits and fruit and urinated on the kitchen floor before escaping in the husband’s branded company vehicle. They also attempted to steal the woman’s Peugeot, but the low fuel level in the car made them decide to take the Ford Bantam bakkie instead. The men also damaged the car in the process. “These ruthless savages have the intention to torture and torment their victims, and they won’t hesitate to kill you. They also vowed to kill our dogs if we didn’t keep them quiet. They questioned us about the whereabouts of our family members, who are pictured in frames on our wall. We moved into this house in April last year and this is the first time ever that we have been victims of a crime,” said the 53-year-old grandfather of three. “The modus operandi of these gangs is to scan the premises and check for vehicles that they can load their goods into and go,” he added. The stolen goods, which included electrical appliances, jewellery, money and all remotes and keys, have not been recovered. They demanded car keys from the couple and checked their private vehicle’s fuel level. The fuel level was low, so the men then settled on stealing a company-owned white Bantam bakkie, which was later tracked and recovered in KwaDabeka. No arrests have yet been made. highwaymail.co.za/180540/couple-survives-horrific-robbery/
