A KZN doctor who recently returned from working in Sierra Leone says her life will never be the same again. Govender joined international and local staff as part of a Doctors Without Borders response to the epidemic. She says nothing could have prepared her for the emotional turmoil she faced on a daily basis. Govender says it was even harder for support staff who work at the camp. She says the support staff who were doing the water, sanitation and the dead body management had emotional breakdowns frequently. The World Health Organisation says the number of reported deaths in West Africa stands at over 6000.(IOL)
