A Kalinganagar/Nandigram/Jagatsinghpur unfolding in #Myanmar - police firing on villagers protesting land grab by Chinese mining company. Earlier occasions of repression at the same site have been justified by Myanmar leaders including Aung San Suu Kyi. Reminder that democracy does not just mean the right to vote, elect, be elected, run parties and so on - though those are important too. A more fundamental concern of democracy is the right of people to have control over their livelihood, land, rights - jal, jangal, zameen.
