A Knife At a Gun Fight In the fight to require background - TopicsExpress

A Knife At a Gun Fight In the fight to require background checks on all gun purchases, Bill Gates, Founder of Microsoft, has given the sum of 1 million dollars to the cause. This reminds me of a line from the second installment of the Austin Powers movies, in which a reincarnated Dr. Evil is demanding a ransom from the world of 1 MILLION dollars, which is subsequently snickered at by his subordinates. I, for the record, am not snickering Bill Gates 1 MILLION dollar donation to a worthy cause. I am absolutely laughing hysterically at it. Is this the best you can do, Bill? 1 MILLION dollars? Isnt that the cost an average dinner party for your friends at your place? Or maybe thats the cost of your security detail when you travel, to protect you (with guns) from those NRA Second Amendment fanatics, who spend MULTI-MILLIONS of dollars each year to fight what it is you just donated 1 MILLION dollars to advocate? Honestly, Bill? Honestly, this is about one of the lamest public relation stunts that I have seen all year, aside from John Boehners unusually bad acting when he gives a public speech blasting Obama. The richest man in the US came up with the unbelievable sum of 1 MILLION dollars to fight the senseless thousands of deaths each year from preventable gun violence, as if he were a three year-old taking a swing at his father it a fit of useless defiance. I have a little advice for you, Bill, if you are serious about this initiative. 1 MILLION dollars will not do it. 100 MILLION dollars might make an effective dent in it. 1...well I think you get accounting, at least. But, seriously, Bill. When you take on the NRA, its not a schoolyard brawl. So, if your are really serious about the background checks, I have one fail safe rule for you to consider before you set out on this quest, if you have not thought of it. You never bring a knife, to a gun fight. M.W.Tucker
