A&L was “mobbed” last Friday. That’s the technical term for it. The layman term is “freakn overwhelmed”. Several regulars showed up with a “What the?” look on their face ... you know ... like deer staring directly into headlights. We ended up with 26 players, 13 teams ... huge more than ever before. Host Bob Bye still managed to get us started by 8:15. As the evening wore on the noise level increased to a loud non-stop slap-stick mind-twisting banter. Even Bob was having problems being heard above that raucous fun loving crowd. Thank God for Andy’s bellowing voice which is able to cut through jet engine noise and to “encourage” players to “get your ass a playing”. The Mob knew they were overwhelming the place and took responsibility for doing so. They worked with Bob to make it happen and were even concerned about causing problems for the bar staff. Cool! Beyond the overwhelm, it was pure pleasure watching it play out. Good job Mob! And good job Bob! Just as a reminder: The A&L Shoot is really designed for 3 to 16 players and to be a time and place for intermediate and committed players to advance their game. It’s kind of like a weekly ADO Qualifier practice shoot with the goal of inspired practice and getting done ASAP. Format rules serve that goal. And 301 DD is played, because if there ever was a single game for improving dart skills, it is 301 DD. The blind draw doubles failsafe is there simply to respond to unexpected invasions ... which can be immensely enjoyable but create a different shoot. And per Nil’s excellent suggestion, will now be a 501 only shoot. BTW: The Sellwood Sunday Shoot was exactly the same format. Michael liked the idea and used it, tucking the associated format documents into his binder (talk about organization). Several people have mentioned that they miss that shoot and wish it were back. (Hint hint) Maybe that’s another job for “The Dart Mob”.
