A Leopards Spots Jeremiah 13:23 A leopard cannot change his spots. If your response to that statement was something like, Well sure, anyone knows that, you responded correctly. And God uses this sure and obvious fact, along with a second, to emphasize an even greater fact, In todays text, we read, Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil, The truth that God is conveying in this verse is: In and of ourselves, we are unable to do good. Although the setting of the following verse is slightly different, it conveys the same thought as todays text-that man naturally turns to evil rather than good: But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Cor.2:14). Hear again Gods Word in Jeremiah 10:23: Oh Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps; in Romans 5:12 we see the reason for that fact: Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. That one man was Adam, and his fallen, sinful nature has been passed on to all generations. It is not sins committed that ultimately condemn us but the sin of failing to exercise belief. John 3:18 says, He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Are you one who has believed or one who has believed not? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved...(Acts 16:31).
