A Letter from former team member Bill Bailey: June 5, 2014 Re: Congratulations on 65th Anniversary Open Letter to Topeka Harley-Davidson; its staff, customers, & HOG members In 1976, I joined Topeka Harley-Davidson, as a Technician. I quickly discovered that working at Topeka Harley-Davidson was more than a job. The family atmosphere is unique. I was exposed to all phases of the dealership experience. This experience created the opportunity to begin a life-long career in the world of Harley-Davidson. The learning I obtained was invaluable throughout my years with Harley-Davidson Motor Company. Topeka Harley-Davidson has a passion that energizes staff & customers. Topeka Harley-Davidson was, is, & will remain an icon in the Harley-Davidson world. I used Topeka Harley-Davidson as an example of what “good looks like”; throughout my various functions with Harley-Davidson Motor Company & working with Erik Buell. Henry taught me the importance of HD history, technical aspects, respecting customers, respecting staff, & maintaining contacts within the Motor Company. Above all, Henry was dedicated to the brand, the Motor Company people, & the Patterson family. He is missed. Henry & Dennis showed me how far one could stretch the limits to ensure customers had a satisfying experience. Exceeding costumer expectations is the norm. Mike shared my passion for flat track racing. Mike showed me the Patterson DNA is strong & everlasting. Topeka Harley-Davidson played an important role within whatever professional achievements & higher education I attained. I often wish I could be a part of the “Saturday morning group.” Dropping in the shop to hang out & talk motorcycles would be enjoyable. Above all, I would enjoy hanging out with the customers. I am one of “the guys.” In my global travels, I rarely encountered anyone as passionate as the Topeka HD customers. I remember celebrating the 30th anniversary of Topeka Harley-Davidson. Also, I remember conducting the first MDA rides & HOG activities. Without dedicated & passionate customers, these important parts of history would not have been possible. Unfortunately, I cannot attend the 65th Anniversary of Topeka Harley-Davidson. I am zooming my Harley though a different part of the USA. To be sure, my absence does not diminish my congratulations on the 65th. Thank you, folks, for allowing me to serve. Even though retired, my blood still runs black & orange. I will see you down the road. As Willie G. says; “Ride Free.” Respectfully & sincerely, Bill Bailey Topeka Harley-Davidson: 1976-1984 Harley-Davidson Motor Company: 1985-2012
