A Life of Sleep Once fell asleep within the arms Of empty words and hollow charm A fate that seemed the will of God In time learned will to be façade Love was assumed and heart was deceived Slumber prescribed and pain was relieved Continuous, night’s dreams exposed What every morn the sun deposed Rays blindfolded view of sleep’s hope For peace of mind once mind awoke Day after night a war was fought Views innate vs. views been taught Doubts ingrained in fears surrender The truest of thine heart’s offenders Armies found in depths forgotten Fought the battles they were caught in Fear fought a hard and noble fight Though wakened eyes did regain sight Hope pried them from their endless sleep Once free, fate took its self-named leap Forever seems the fall in length A drop that’s made with yet known strength The winds blow strong and nights scream loud For years jump’s purpose remains unfounded Since endless seems the fall from leap Eyes sometimes ache for life of sleep -- Audrey Michelle
