A Lifetime Passion for Harleys and WWII Aircraft. In 1966, as a student, a friend offered me for sale his Harley 1947 WL 750 cc. As driven by a higher power and my boundless admiration for such bike since my kid years, in an impulse I bought the bike and drove her home right away, without a motorcycle license. It was no option to delay the deal, it felt as Now or Never: I went for Now: You dont mess around with serious passions. For years I enjoyed the riding and one day, she was stolen. Newer Harleys followed for riding all over Europe and USA/ Canada. But one day, memories from my wild youth spent in Borneo started pulling hard on me. The legendary Dakota DC-3 and the Catalina PBY-5A that I flew there with my Pa, it all came back and turned into a passion to do it again. I wrote a book about my weird expeditions to meet those planes, titled: The Dakota Hunter (due for sale by mid Nov. now on Amazon list for pre ordering). Out of the blue, my lifetime friend Bally Nienhuis bought a 1947 Harley WL, exactly the type and color as my first beloved Harley. I told him that if ever that bike comes for sale, there is only one buyer! In the end, you dont mess around with serious passions. Follow me for more news also for an autographed Limited Edition of the book. See avionart/newsletters.php dakotahunter.org Photo courtesy Onno Wieringa, Stef Schermer.
