A MEMBER of the newly formed Capital Trustees has submitted his resignation less than two weeks after being sworn in. Dr Waheeb Al Nasser, who is also Bahrain University vice-president for planning and development, has presented his resignation in writing to Capital Trustees chairman Mohammed Al Khozaae. The 13-member body of appointed technocrats replaced Manama Municipal Council on December 3, but according to sources Mr Al Nasser did not understand his job role as a member of the trustees. He was allegedly under the impression that he would be a consultant, giving feedback on investment opportunities and development projects “ but penned his resignation after discovering his role would be closer to that of the erstwhile municipal councillors, according to sources. The rest of the trustees will be informed about the letter during their second meeting at the Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Ministry today, the GDN has learnt. This meeting will focus on trustees work, members rights and jurisdictions, and the mechanism of their work. Members will also discuss forming a new environment and health committee to sit alongside the existing services and public utilities committee, financial, administrative and legislative committee and technical committee. We will not name committee members for now and instead focus on explaining our work and how the committees function, Mr Al Khozaae told the GDN. Once that is achieved we will move to the next step “ I have a strong line-up of members and they will be divided according to their specialisations on the committees. Dr Al Nasser did not want to comment when contacted by the GDN. Meanwhile, Muharraq Municipal Councils committee chairmen were elected yesterday in a closed meeting. Council vice-chairman Mohammed Herz is the new technical committee chairman, Ghazy Al Murbati is the financial, administrative and legislative committee chairman and the councils only Shiite member Ali Al Nasooh was elected as services and public utilities committee chairman.
