Even though I were not brought up in the Russian Orthodox faith, my parents taught me to respect this holiday & those who celebrate it. That why we always kept our tree & decorations up until after January 7th. Ever since I was a youngster, I remember hearing--It always seems to snow for Russian Orthodox Christmas. Do you remember hearing that? I once posed this question to Accuweather senior meteorologist Elliot Abrams & he could not supply me with definitive statistics. 1 thing is certain: if youre celebrating Orthodox Christmas somewhere in Siberia, it will most probably be a white one every year. Special thanks to AM 1410 WLSH Lansford for continuing a decades-old tradition--playing Christmas music from Thanksgiving Day through Orthodox Christmas Day. WLSH could be the only radio station in Pa. maintaining this unique, long-standing music tradition. It began in the early 1950s because Alice Angst celebrated Orthodox Christmas & did not want to hear the music end on December 25th. When her husband Bud sold WLSH in 1989, I lobbied the new owner, the late Harold Fulmer, to continue that coal region tradition, which he did.
