A MESSAGE FROM DR. TOBY EASLEY gracebaptistcelina.org I was reflecting back the other day and thought about years gone by when our mothers would place a cold thermometer under our arms. Do you remember those thermometers? Today, the nurse will walk into a patient’s room or a hospital room and place an electronic thermometer in place and immediately the temperature is detected. The first time I saw the new technology; all I could say was “Wow!” No more holding still with a thermometer under your arm, waiting for three or four minutes to transpire. I even remember my mom saying, lets put it under your arm one more time, just to make sure were getting an accurate reading. I would roll my eyes and say, Alright, just one more time I guess. Now let me ask you a spiritual question regarding the above information. How is your spiritual temperature these days? Do you have an accurate method of getting a precise spiritual temperature reading? You see, if my temperature exceeded the normal body temperature, my mom would always say, we may need to take you to see the Doctor. The only thing I could think about was having to get a shot! I liked my family doctor growing up; he was the one who also delivered me from my mother’s womb. However, when I went to his office I didnt even like the smell because every time I walked in with my mother, I had flashbacks of my last shot! Unfortunately, physical illness often brings with it unpleasant realities. Likewise, spiritual illness can also bring unpleasant realities. I remember the old saying; Sin will keep you longer than you want to stay!” Paul said it like this, What shall we say then, Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein (Romans 6:1,2)? In other words, if you are comfortable as a professing Christian living in sin, there is something desperately wrong! And Paul is also saying that spiritual health will not be abounding because sin is a sign of a spiritual malfunction. Still to this day, I know when my body is running a temperature. I usually start out with chills, and then my whole body feels warm. I also become aware that if I take medicine and the temperature does not subside, it is time to get to the doctor. Perhaps the most important question to ask is, “Who is your spiritual doctor?” When you are running a spiritual temperature, do you seek the self-help doctors of our day or do you seek The Great Physician?” True spiritual healing will only come through Jesus Christ The Great Physician and His spiritual thermometer is never inaccurate! If you are looking for a church home, let me challenge you to pray about setting roots down here among these loving people. I trust you will sense a warm welcome at GBF. Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you. Blessings, Dr. Toby Easley
