A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR KATHY FLEMING: It was a busy weekend as usual for the Lighthouse. On Friday night, marine scientist and artist Guy Harvey paid a visit to a special reception in his honor. The museum has a special El Galeon Tee-shirt designed by Harvey, that remains for sale in the gift shop. Supplies are going fast, so get yours today. About 30 museum donors and members attended the reception, met guy and had him sign Tee’s. The Lighthouse also gave away 85 free tickets to the Harvey’s, Tiger Shark Express film which premiered in Palm Coast on Saturday night. Guy Harvey lives in Ft. Lauderdale, FL which is where our Museum’s Executive Director Kathy Fleming spent Saturday morning at the Florida Association of Museum’s (FAM’s) Board of Trustees Annual Retreat. Ms. Fleming serves as a trustee of FAM; which recently brought travel writers to the St. Augustine Area for a tour of member museums and historic sites. In 2014/2015 the FAM Board will hold its annual conference in North East Florida. The Florida Association of Museums, known as FAM, represents more than 400 outstanding institutions that care for the State’s heritage and culture and that promoted learning and exploration. FAM connects these institutions providing advocacy, professional development and networking opportunities. In addition to serving 30 million visitors Florida’s museum account for 1/3 of a billion dollars in economic activity annually. The network of institutions ensures the continued enrichment of Florida’s communities.
