A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Masterman Community, Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff, and the support of parent volunteers, Masterman operated reasonably well during the first week of school—despite severe staffing shortages due to district budget cutbacks. However, Masterman will need continued, constant volunteer support during the weeks ahead to ensure a successful, safe school environment for our students. If at all possible, I write to urge parents to please schedule a regular time to volunteer at the school. Whether you can volunteer weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly – any and all assistance will help. Sign-up here volunteerspot/login/entry/136540136013 for volunteer opportunities available at Masterman before, during and immediately after the school day. We need immediate assistance in these areas. Front office volunteers are also needed in the mornings, especially after mid-September. Front office volunteers can sign up here volunteerspot/login/entry/535181990069 According to Philadelphia School District policy, volunteers must obtain their security clearances—typically the Pennsylvania State Criminal History Record and a Child Abuse Report. But it is possible to volunteer after you have applied for the clearances, even if you do not yet have the final reports. Please see the Basic FAQS on Security Clearances & Philadelphia School District Policy: https://docs.google/document/d/1gVKd2UcBiSqt-2SrnsMYWwjRukRklqfTBG3KOCuyObc/edit which also include links to instructions on how to apply for needed clearances. The Masterman staff and I appreciate the amazing show of support parents have given our school in recent weeks. We are heartened and relieved by your early donations of time and school supplies. But make no mistake, the need for parents in the school will continue throughout the year. Please volunteer. Marjorie Neff Principal
