A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST….maybe…but certainly only - TopicsExpress

A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST….maybe…but certainly only one way to die at the box office and it’s called: flop. Seth MacFarlane wrote, played in and directed this extraordinarily uninspired piece. Albert is a sheep farmer who looses his girlfriend, Louise, (Amanda Seyfried) because well, she’s a gold digger. Along comes gorgeous but dressed down Anna (Charlize Theron) who’s married to bad and mean Clinch (Liam Neeson). With Anna’s help, Albert finds his confidence and saves the day. Now…it has already been established that no American comedy can function without the obligatory bodily fluid and excrement jokes (unfortunately). And here MacFarlane takes it to a whole other level and not in a good way. In fact those were the least funny moments of a not very funny movie. MacFarlane never reaches the proper tone for this piece. Everything feels desperate about it, as if a star-studded cast could save a poorly written script. The jokes are bad and sparse. While I watched the movie all I could think of was the fact that MacFarlane was allowed to make this movie based on his huge success of the movie Ted. No studio, after reading the script (if in fact they did) would ever authorize this piece. A sudden black-out at the movies (it shut down the screen for fifteen minutes) sent a quarter of the audience fleeing a bad movie. I, as well as the other forty viewers (in a hall that probably fits 500) stayed of course, because I had to see how bad it gets…it turns out...excruciatingly bad.
