A MYSTIC! - Edgar decided to come to Manila to be with his father in Bulacan. He left both his mother and grandmother in Leyte since they were both too weak to survive the journey to Manila. He is unsure whether his sister is still alive. He left with nothing but the clothes on his back, with days of untreated wounds that could have caused tetanus and gangrene. His long travel on foot made him see countless dead bodies on the street. He recounted how the smell of death was simply everywhere. He expressed deep sorrow on the grave damage the typhoon caused his hometown. With his thoughts and sad experiences too numerous to mention, one thing struck me about Edgar. During our conversation, I noticed how in spite of everything that happened to him and his family, there was absolutely no anger or bitterness in his tone. All I saw and felt from him was the constant smile and twinkle in his eyes, how hopeful he was about being able to find a job here, his plans of pursuing a degree to be a technician, to stay for a few years until Leyte is back on its feet.
