A Marysville man allegedly burned a womans face and body Monday night by pouring gasoline on the front doorway of her residence and lighting it on fire when she opened the door. Charles Chandler, 48, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated mayhem, torture and aggravated arson in Yuba County Superior Court. He pleaded not guilty on Tuesday. Bail was set at $500,000. If you wait to light the fire until she walks into the trap youve laid, thats attempted murder, said Deputy District Attorney Mike Byrne. The victim, Nicole Miller, 35, suffered burns on her face, arms, hands and feet and was transported from her Val Drive home to Rideout Memorial Hospital. She was discharged by Tuesday afternoon. Byrne said he saw photos of her injuries that showed a lot of blistering just starting to form on her face and extremities. Officers learned Miller and Chandler were acquaintances who earlier had a disagreement about marijuana. They believe Chandler walked with a 2-gallon can of gasoline from the 1300 block of Hobart Drive to Millers residence, where he poured the gasoline on the front doorway, according to Lt. Jason Garringer. When Miller opened the front door, Chandler used a Bic lighter to ignite the gasoline. A fire immediately engulfed the doorway and Miller, police said. A neighbor witnessed the fire and called 911. Chandler was found about 25 minutes later on Hobart Drive.
