A Meissen Gold Ground Porcelain Box with Watteau Painting Porcelain, polychrome painting and gold ground Germany, 2nd half 19th century Porcelain Manufactory Meissen Underglaze blue crossed swords mark Sugar jar with lid Figural painting after Watteau Gallant scenes in a park Dimensions: 10.5 cm height, 12 cm diameter This delightful sugar jar originates from the Porcelain Manufactory Meissen from the second half of the 19th century. It is elaborately decorated with a gold fond and paintings after Watteau. Lid and base bear different couples in park landscapes. Between those there are singular butterflies, bees and flowers. These gallant scenes in a park, as well as the large gold fond make this box an outstandingly exquisite piece. The sugar jar by Meissen bears the underglaze blue crossed swords mark underneath. The box is in appealing condition with traces of wear and age like abrasion of the gold fond. The leaves of the rose knob are slightly chiped. Restorations of the gold at the leaves are visible under a black light lamp. A fire crack is visible on the ground at the mark. The dimensions or 10.5 cm height and 12 cm diameter. (From Auctionata)
