A Message from Imam Karim AbuZaid Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam, community members, Assalam Alaikum Warahmatu Allahi Wabarakataho, Just reminding myself and all of you with the day of `Ashura (10th of Muharram), do not forget to mark your calendars, and formulate an intention to fast on this day. Here are the evidences for fasting the day of `Ashura: - The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him said:“For fasting the day of ‘Ashura, I hope that Allah will accept it as expiation for the year that went before.” [Reported by Muslim, 1976] Ibn ‘Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said “I never saw the Messenger of Allah, upon whom be peace, so keen to fast any day and give it priority over any other than this day, the day of ‘Ashura, and this month, meaning Ramadan.” [Reported by al-Bukhari, 1867] As for the wisdom behind fasting on this day, this will be Insha Allah one of the subjects which I will address during my visit to Denver this weekend. please review the schedule for more information.
