A Message from Kuya Abbot Calvelo (Finance Committe Servant Leader of the Wellington Filipino Chaplaincy). Lets do our part to lighten the burden of our kababayans who are suffering from the wrath of Yolanda. ________________________________________________________________________________ From: Emmanuel Calvelo To: fcpc_wlg@yahoogroups Sent: Thursday, 14 November 2013 3:00 AM Subject: [Filipino Chaplaincy-Wellington] Yolanda Thypoon Aid Hi Friends, Our countrymen back home are in dire need of our continuous prayers and generous financial support to help alleviate the plight of our brothers and sisters back home after the devastation wrought by the super typhoon Haiyan (known locally as Yolanda). The Filipino Chaplaincy-Wgtn is fully supporting Caritas NZ Appeal for much-needed donation to help those areas hardest hit through the Caritas Phil-NASSA (National Secretariat for Social Action). It’s Executive Director, Fr. Edwin Gariguez, said, “It’s a great catastrophe, but our emergency planning is underway. We are in great need.” Caritas NZ has so far committed $100,000 for the Yolanda fund drive. In our humble way, the Filipino Chaplaincy is transferring immediately an advanced donation of $2,000 to Caritas NZ in anticipation of proceeds from our 2014 Chaplaincy Calendar to be released shortly (Theme: We are a Co-Responsible Church, in Humble Service or the Gospel). We are selling calendar @ $10.00 (expected 50% proceed or $5/calendar goes to Caritas NZ Yolanda fund – last year’s beneficiary was our Bible for each home program) Our Simbang Gabi Novena Mass collections this year shall also be channelled to Yolanda victims (together with whatever donations which may be generated from our Immaculate Concepcion Novenas sponsored by the different Bgys and our second collections from our regular masses). Likewise our Immaculate Conception celebrations on Dec 7 shall be made as modest as possible to divert funds to Yolanda victims. You may donate to Yolanda fund drive by transferring to our Filipino Chaplaincy Account: 03 0543 0334365 00 (Westpac) using Yolanda + Your name as Reference when bank transferring (pls email [email protected] your contact details for tax rebate purposes). Alternatively, you can donate to Caritas NZ for Yolanda funds appeal (making sure you specify that this is for Yolanda- Phil fund drive) by: Phoning 0800 22 10 22 to make credit card donations; Phoning 0900 4 11 11 to make an automatic $20 donation from your phone bill; Donating online using a credit card at caritas.org.nz; or Posting to Caritas, PO Box 12193, Thorndon, Wellington 6144, New Zealand. A Caritas team has reached the province of Leyte by boat on 10 November to assess the most urgent needs. From data on wind speeds and storm surge, as well as the levels of poverty, Caritas fears the scale of destruction in yet unreached areas is catastrophic. Thank you brothers and sisters for your valuable support during this time of need. All our prayers, Emmanuel (Abbot) Chaplaincy Finance (on behalf of FCPC-Wgtn)
