A Message from the Superintendent All, We are all recovering from Convention Days weekend. It was exhausting and WONDERFUL! Visitation at the park was the highest in decades! The community and public overwhelmingly had positive comments about the new events. Over and over again the comment was, Ive been coming for years and I love it but it was nice to have new activities and events! Additionally, there were a large number of first-time visitors that specifically came for Convention Days! · At the United Nations Women event, eight nations were represented and the dialog touched on the many nations in Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East that have laws excluding women, and moreover, how the campaign for Safe Cities addresses violence against women in developed nations. We are already in discussions how to connect Beijing 20 with Elizabeth Cady Stantons 200th birthday and the 167th anniversary of the Convention. UN Women is proposing a national webinar in 2015. · Those who participated in the First Annual Convention Paddle, guided by Women on Water, thoroughly enjoyed their adventure on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal, and locking through Lock 2 & 3, while learning about women’s history and nature. Many a visitor plan to participate next year! · The panel on Troubling Convention organized by Betty Bayer, Professor of Women’s Studies at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, was an overwhelming success! A number of visitors on Sunday requested the panel re-convene next year and we give more time for audience participation! Other visitors commented they heard the Saturday panel on public radio and decided to come for Sundays events. · Freedom of speech, press, religion, and assembly are rights protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. As custodians of land owned by the American people, the National Park Service (NPS) has a responsibility to make that land available for exercising those rights. The courts have held that certain activities associated with exercising these rights may be regulated to protect park resources and the publics legitimate use of the parks resources. Saturdays First Amendment activities highlighted the Declaration of Equalities for Muslim Women and the participants in the procession from the Elizabeth Cady Stanton home to Declaration Park represented many nations as well. Thank you to every employee for going above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you to the Friends of Womens Rights National Historical Park for their support! Thank you to every partner (individual and organization) for your engagement and support! Onward to 2015! Ami
